Spiritual Counseling
The diagnosis of cancer can stop you in your tracks, forcing you to evaluate your priorities and consider what life is all about. At this reflective and often frightening time, spiritual counseling may be desired. The David C. Pratt Cancer Center has a board-certified chaplain on site to help you during your time of need. Additionally, St. John's Mercy Medical Center offers chaplain service 24 hours a day.
Services provided include prayer, spiritual counseling and guided imagery to assist patients in coping with illness and side effects of their treatments. Using the mentioned services, patients can receive assistance to help with relaxation, energy balance, individual spirituality and general overall well-being. Spiritual Service is a complimentary service offered to cancer patients and their family members. For more information, please call 251-6933 ext. 27335. Patients who are at the Cancer Center may also contact the chaplain through the volunteer's desk near the main entrance or the Cancer Information Center.
Prayer Bowls
Throughout the David C. Pratt Cancer Center you will find Prayer Bowls, handmade wooden bowls created to collect prayer wishes from patients and families. The prayer wishes are collected once a week and prayed over by individuals in the Cancer Center, then taken to St. John's Mercy Medical Center where they are prayed over again in Pastoral Services.
Individual Meditation
The Cancer Information Center offers personalized imagery and relaxation tapes for chemotherapy and radiation treatments to aid individual healing. The Cancer Center also offers a meditation room designed as a quiet place for reflection, relaxation and prayer.
