Pediatric Cancer Services

From the mural in the waiting room to the syringe-painting craft projects in the activity area, the Pediatric Cancer and Hematology Center offers a non-threatening, child-centered environment in which a patient can receive most of his or her cancer therapy. It is our goal to make everyone, from newborn to young adult, comfortable and at ease in our office.

Through diversional, medical and play therapy, and focused imagery for pain management, the patient is able to deal with the fear and anxiety the cancer diagnosis and subsequent therapy may cause.

Most of our patients are able to complete their cancer therapy as outpatients. If, during the course of treatment, the patient must be hospitalized, we can accommodate one parent in the child's room. Assistance with accommodations for other family members can be obtained through both Volunteer Services and Social Services at St. John's Mercy Medical Center.
